Bishop Andrewes was the Bishop of Chichester from 1605-9 and was the key translator of the King James Version of the Bible in 1611. He was one of the most famous and important Bishops of Chichester and his most famous sermon is quoted by English poet TS Eliot in The Journey of the Magi.

What is Andrewes House like?

We like to think of Andrewes as being a large family. Pupils feel there is a strong sense of unity within the House and that this has led to a great team spirit which has brought the House together and enabled us to achieve a lot of success both in inter-house competitions and in things like charity fund-raising activities.

A REVIEW OF Andrewes House 2024-2025

Wow!  This year has flown past - So much going on in so little time.  So, back in September we had our new Year 7 tutor group at the Isle of Wight where we nailed a solid victory yet again at ‘Laser Tag’.  Burrows tried valiantly, but they were no match for our cunning and skill.  Year 7 has been crazily busy this year with so many activities and opportunities; too many to list, but I will give some of them a go.  Felicity S and Isla H attended the Young leaders conference where they developed skills for the future. Our house buddies this year are Isla H, Oleksii, Ariana, Juan, Felicity, Seb, Teddy, Harry L and Jonathan. These young people have given up their time to help the Year 6 find their way about on their transition day.  Isla H, Felicity S, George, Teddy, Seb and Jonathan starred in House Drama or helped with the Tech’ team.

Year 8 has also been busy this year.  We have a lot of International team members; Imogen, Sophie, Evie, Mia, Persephone, Ivy, Tilly, Evie and Rose.  Many of our Year 8 students were also in the House drama; Evie H, Ivy R, Tilly B, Rose O, Sophie P and Mia F.  George M and Josh H-J were Tech support.

Year 9 have all chosen their options now and will be mostly starting their GCSE courses in September, although some have already started this term!  Emma L and Eva C were standout actors in the House drama, being Wendy and Smee!  Henry A-N worked hard on the sound and light desk for our performance.

Year 10 have developed lots of new skills and are starting to buckle down to some hard GCSE work.  George S and Harry G were excellent in the Peter Pan House Drama which was ably directed by Jeasmine Idris and Isla Donaldson (Y12).  It was an uplifting performance with many cheeky moments and some excellent acting.  We made it to the final, but unfortunately didn’t win - We woz robbed!

Jasmine Idris and Kirsten Bekker have been fantastic House Captains this year and have spearheaded our charity events including the Odd sock day on March 21st.

We also feature strongly in the La Diva Choir with many Andrewes students taking part, where the Fletcher sisters made a massive impact in their last performance - so well written about by Mr Hindman.

I am quite sure I have missed lots of stuff out as there have been so many opportunities and massive involvement from Andrewes students. Including a fantastic up and coming Cheerleading team!

I am sorry If I have missed you out. It has been a busy and exhausting year and Andrewes - as we stand - are second in the House point race!  It’s all to play for.  Sports day is still to come and Andrewes will have our awards assembly on the last day of term where Y10 will find out if they have House colours for next term.

Thank you to all our tutors; Mrs Williams Y13, Mr Barnett Y12, Mrs Machado Y11, Mrs Wells Y10, Mr Bonney Y9, Sra Lopez Y8 and Mrs Topley and Mrs Pilgrim Y7.  They have all worked very hard to support our Andrewes students throughout the year.

It just leaves me to say a very warm thank-you to all of you parents for the support you have given to the school over the last 12 months.  I pray that we will all be able to relax over the summer, close some of our many open tabs and be refreshed ready to kick it into touch in September.
