MAKE YOUR STORY WORTH REMEMBERING
In 1971, our House was made when the school grew from six forms of entry to eight! Story House is named after Bishop Story, 1477-1503, who build the Chichester Market Cross and founded Prebendal School. Our house is loving and caring, we’re like one big family!
The students’ time in Story House will stay with them, through overcoming obstacles of day to day life, making friends, celebrating, working together and having experiences they will never forget. We have tutors who are past pupils, who felt such a part of Story House during their time at Bishop Luffa that there was no other house that they could come back to – because Story House made their story worth remembering.
A REVIEW OF STORY HOUSE 2024-25
Year 7- Welcome to Story House
As we look back on this fantastic year, it’s clear that our tutor group has had a truly memorable start to Bishop Luffa – full of achievements, new friendships, and unforgettable experiences.
One of the standout moments of the year was our incredible residential trip to the Isle of Wight. From the ferry ride to the fun-filled activities, it was a chance for everyone to step out of their comfort zones, try new things, and grow closer as a group. It was wonderful to see friendships blossom and everyone supporting each other through every challenge and adventure.
Back at school, 7ST have continued to shine – especially in the inter-house events. Whether it was cricket, tennis, or netball, our tutor group brought energy, talent, and team spirit to every match. Your hard work, sportsmanship, and determination really stood out, and it’s no surprise that we’ve excelled across the board this year with students taking part in drama, house charity events and the school choir.
Well done to each and every one of you for making this year so special. Let’s carry this momentum forward – here's to even more success (and fun) next year!
Some individuals who have done remarkable things this year include Harriet Nichols, Scarlet Hackett and Oscar Stephens performing The Last Train to Tomorrow at the Minerva Theatre. Oliver Rutter has taken part in the National Schools Sailing Championships, represented the school in Cricket and Rugby fixtures, as well as represented Chichester Rugby Club as part of a team taking part in the Harlequins Defender Premiership Rugby Cup in Guildford. Neha Sany reached the U12 County final in Football and Harriet Nicols passed her Grade 2 piano exam. Oscar Stephens took part in the IOCA UK Spring Championships 2025 in Torbay and went on to compete in the National try out for the and GB squad for sailing. We are proud to announce that he is now part of the GB Squad! (pictured in his new GB jacket!)
House Buddies were awarded to: Philippa Martindale, Beatrix Turner, Harriet Nichols, Scarlet Hackett, Arlo Minett, Oscar Stephens, Amelia King, Annabelle Papathanassi.
Miss E Unitt – Year 7 Tutor
Year 8
This year has been another very successful one for 8 Story. They continue to fulfil our school motto of living life in all its fullness. This has taken many different journeys showing yet again what a talented and diverse bunch of individuals they are, yet also a cohesive unit that I am proud to share and spend time with. As a collective they were the driving force behind the Story House donut sales and Blue Day raffle with several giving up break and lunchtimes all week showing true commitment. We also shone dramatically this year with show stealing performances in Bugsy particularly form Josh Johnston as well as Interhouse drama being almost exclusively from the tutor group showcasing not only their dramatic, but also their comedic talent. Supporting not only our house, but the others and for school-wide musical and dramatic events, George Fitzgerald has been a member of the tech team as well as being a digital leader helping not only our school, but also helping run events in some primary schools.
None of this has been at the expense of sporting achievements which have included Jack Slade cycling to Paris over a weekend narrowly escaping the riots. Meanwhile, Francesca Dumitriu took part in the South East Levels Women's Artistic Gymnastics competition and placed second on Vault across all ages on Copper level representing The Academy of Gym club. She was one of the youngest gymnasts out of 64 girls aged up to 16 years old. She has also competed for Sussex County in the Bronze category in Gymnastics and came 3rd overall for the whole of Sussex. Swimming has also been a strength with Derin Cowley being part of the school team that swam together for the first time at the Sussex qualifier in October 2024 and had only trained together once, for one hour, in the build up to these finals. Meanwhile, Noah Bulbeck was part of a team representing the school in Boccia helping them to achieve 1st in their group round, and 6th overall, but very deservedly won the certificate for team work. Well done to Rebekah Jolly who has been part of a team of budding artists. The team recently painted pictures for an exhibition and had some printed onto cards, which they then sold to raise money for the charity Children on the Edge. They managed to sell over 200 cards, making a profit of £130.
All students have contributed to Story’s efforts to win the House point cup with the weekly totals slide densely populated with Storians, with one surpassing 500 which I believe is a first. They now all deserve a fun and restful summer to enable them to return refreshed and ready for another fantastic year.
Mrs S Callaghan – Year 8 Tutor
Year 9
Year 9 has been a milestone year for 9 Story, filled with growth, creativity, and outstanding achievements. As students began their journey into some of their GCSE courses, they demonstrated maturity, curiosity, and a growing sense of independence in their learning. Their enthusiasm and commitment have been evident both in the classroom and beyond.
Our tutor group has truly made its mark across a wide range of activities, proudly representing Bishop Luffa in athletics, football, and swimming. Whether on the track, field, or in the pool, our students have shown great sportsmanship, dedication and teamwork, all qualities that reflect the spirit of our group.
Creativity has also flourished this year. Several students were heavily involved in rehearsals for La Diva, our all-girls choir. Their hard work culminated in a number of memorable recitals, including a special performance in Tenerife which is an experience they will never forget. Others wowed audiences in the school’s spectacular production of Bugsy Malone.
We are also immensely proud of our internationally minded students who are active members of the International Club. This year, they played a key role in welcoming a group of South Korean teachers to Bishop Luffa. Their warm hospitality and thoughtful explanations of British culture helped build important bridges of understanding and friendship.
A special mention goes out to Oluchi Aihwe for her work with the Diva Choir, Jess McGovern for winning a Design and Technology Award and Orla Jones for taking part in the National Schools Sailing Championships.
Throughout the year, our tutor group has embodied the values of our school including compassion, courage, creativity, and community. From academic milestones to musical triumphs and international outreach, it’s been a year to remember. We can’t wait to see what they’ll achieve next!
Mr N Marshall – Year 9 Tutor
Year 10
What a fantastic year it has been for 10 Story! This group has impressed in so many ways—through their dedication, achievements, and contributions both in and out of school. From outstanding work experience placements to personal milestones and well-deserved recognition, every student has helped make this year one to remember.
This year, students took part in work experience across a wide variety of industries. Some standout placements included Josephine Tupper at AP Equestrian, where she developed resilience and responsibility caring for horses, and Keiran Mogridge, who spent the week learning practical skills at Emsworth Yacht Harbour. Austin Williams worked with a family business in Devon, gaining hands-on experience in construction, while Ashanti Walker gained an insight into retail and design at London’s Sam Ubhi shop. Joel explored digital marketing and event coordination at Network My Club Ltd, while Nathan Simons gained experience in outdoor education at a Forest School. These placements helped students build confidence, independence, and career awareness—skills that will benefit them well beyond Year 10.
Outside school, students also achieved some incredible things. Josephine Tupper excelled in show jumping, placing 5th out of 30 and successfully clearing one-metre jumps at her new yard. Ashanti Walker demonstrated determination and stamina by swimming 5,000 metres in under three hours. Poppy Hine achieved a distinction in her Grade 6 modern dance exam, a merit in Grade 6 Musical Theatre singing, and set three new personal bests in athletics—an impressive balance of creativity and sporting achievement. Toby Russell-Wells and Keiran Mogridge both threw new PBs in javelin, with Toby also excelling in triple and long jump. Nathan and Austin completed their Duke of Edinburgh expedition (with Austin proudly noting that surviving the walk was a personal triumph!), and Joel Worth continued to show leadership by captaining his football team. Nell Stringer's performances at Chichester Festival Theatre and her involvement in regular dance shows showcased her commitment to the arts.
We were also proud to see so many students awarded House and Faculty Colours this year—a reflection of their character, work ethic, and the positive impact they’ve made on the wider school community. Whether through consistent contributions in lessons, sporting success, involvement in the performing arts, or leadership in school events, the students of 10 Story have shown what it means to be dedicated, supportive, and ambitious.
Every student has brought something unique to the form, and the sense of community has never been stronger. From lively discussions during form time to everyday moments of encouragement and teamwork, this group has continued to grow—not just academically, but socially and personally too.
As we look ahead to Year 11, there is every reason to be proud. 10 Story has laid strong foundations for future success, showing maturity, commitment, and flair. Well done to every member of the form—this year has proven just how much you are all capable of. We can't wait to see what comes next!
Mr K Ellis – Year 10 Tutor
Year 11
Throughout the year 11ST continued to dominate the team sports with fantastic results in the football and netball interhouse tournaments before they went on study leave, and Jenny Fitzgerald continued to play an important role in the school council.
We have now said goodbye to 11ST following the thoroughly enjoyable Prom featuring an elegant marquee backdrop and lots of dancing and balloons. This celebration followed a huge amount of hard work from the group in the run-up to their final GCSE exams and they seemed very excited about the next steps, with many choosing to stay on at the school but lots moving on to new horizons at Chichester College and in apprenticeship placements.
We wish them all the best for the future!
House Colours awarded to: Jack Cheney, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Eva Jones, Jennifer Ruffle and Olivia Willson.
Mr M Bennett – Year 11 Tutor
Year 12
It has been wonderful to now be the tutor of the form whom I taught English back in 2020! They’ve changed a bit! but they’re still a great bunch of people, and I’m privileged to be their form tutor. I am constantly amazed at how involved most of them are in school life: as mentors; reading Ambassadors; running the Debating and the Scratch clubs; going to Tanzania; and I’m so proud that there is a strong Story presence on the Committee next year. The Old Guard has made the newbies, Sam, Ella and Eva feel very welcome, and I look forward to helping them all through their next steps in year 13.
Mr S Collins – Year 12 Tutor
Year 13
13 Story have worked extremely hard this year as they prepare for their final A-level exams, whilst still making a considerable contribution to the wider life of the school and finding time to develop their many individual talents and interests. They have successfully navigated the UCAS process and secured offers for a diverse range of competitive courses, including Physiotherapy, Animation, Film, Economics and English Literature. We are extremely proud of Aaron Butters who has been offered a place to study English and German at Oxford University.
It has been a pleasure to see members of 13 Story throw themselves into the significant ‘moments’ of sixth-form life, especially the Winter Ball, Leavers’ Ball and the Leavers’ Eucharist. We wish them all the best as they progress to the next stage of their lives and education and hope that they will continue to enjoy life in all its fullness whatever they are doing. We look forward to seeing members of 13 Story appear on our school alumni boards and return to school events in the future!

Sixth Form House Captain & Team
This year we are proud to have continued our tradition of having not just 2 House Captains but a whole team of sixth formers to support the House. They have worked tirelessly this year to support all of the children and tutors along the way. They have made such a good team. Organising the Inter-house teams, House drama, Charity events and our sixth form mentoring program.
Thank you so much for all your support this year.
Mrs S Charge – Head of Story House
Final words from our House Captains
It’s been a great year to serve as House captain. We've enjoyed doing multiple house charity events such as selling cakes to raise money for dementia UK. In addition to this, I've really enjoyed being able to help our house and motivating people to do exciting things. Anyone looking to be house captain next year, I would say be outgoing and motivational but also try to think of what you would like in a good house captain and aim for that goal if you're struggling.
Harry Saunders 12St
Serving as House captain for Story house has been an invaluable experience for me. There’s nothing more rewarding than being able to help younger students in our school, through help such as peer mentoring and reading ambassadors, to assisting in charity events to raise money for dementia UK. Together as a house we’ve been able to pull together to help raise both money and awareness for dementia UK, as well as assist the school in its open evenings and induction day. With all the good that can come from being house captain and helping out, I encourage anyone considering it for next year to apply, because it’s an invaluable experience.
Caitlin Foyn 12St
Running for School Captain
Running for school captain gave me valuable experience and skill even though I didn’t win. It gave me the courage to speak in front of lots of students, which coming from a mainly adult based family with no siblings, was tough. Now I have this skill which I can use in the future. I would highly recommend the job of campaigning for the captaincy let alone being School Captain and if you are thinking of applying for it, be energetic and interactive with your audience to gain the students attention so they vote for you and absolutely take on the challenge. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

House Charity Events
Our House Charity continues to be Dementia UK. As a House, this charity is really important to us. Many of us have seen the impact Dementia can have on family members. Since the pandemic, smaller charities have struggled so any support we can provide them is greatly appreciated.
Dementia UK, provides specialist dementia support to families through its Admiral Nurse Service. When things get challenging or difficult, Dementia UK’s nurses work alongside people with dementia and their families, giving them the one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions, they need which can be hard to find elsewhere.
Elf Day and Christmas Choir
In the lead up to Christmas, Story House were full of the spirit of goodwill and were keen to get involved in several charity-based adventures. This began with members of the House and supported by other students and staff in the school dressing up as elves and donating in the form of money, food or prayers. Some chose to exchange an item of school uniform for a red or green alternative, others wore an elf hat, there were also who went "full-on elf"! On the same day, 8Story organised and ran a cake sale. There was such an offering of biscuits and cakes that catered for all taste buds. Altogether this event raised over £250 for their House charity Dementia UK.
Story House also took their charity endeavours out into the community and were welcomed at Homelands Nursing home where our Christmas Choir sang to the residents, most of whom have dementia. All the students enjoyed themselves as did the residents and carers.
Singers were: April Stanton 7St, Oscar Stephens 7St, Dahsa Zaitseva 8St, Annabelle Ruff 8St, Evie Clarke 8St, Evelyn Dyer 8St, George Fitzgerald 8St, Josh Johnston 8St, Rebekah Jolly 8St, Daisy Kirk 8St, Jess McGovern 9St, Hannah Griffiths 9St, Oluchi Ahiwe 9St.
Blue Day and Donut week
In May members of Story House spent a whole week raising the profile of Dementia UK with a week-long donut sales, Blue Hamper Raffle and annual ‘Blue Day’. On Blue Day the whole school was invited to join together with Story house and Dress in Blue items of clothing to show our support for this wonderful charity. Thank you to everyone who brought raffle tickets, donuts or donated funds on Blue day.
Why Blue? Blue is the official colour of Dementia, symbolising memory and forget-me-nots.

We are very proud to announce that including all our other events and non-uniform days, we have raised over £1200 this year and we hope to build on this success next year by not only holding these events but adding more to raise as much as we can for this worthy cause. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported and donated this year.
