Year 8 Visit to Marwell Zoo

14 Oct

The whole of Year 8 visited Marwell Zoo at the start of this term. They had a fantastic talk from an enthusiastic zoo keeper, all about the adaptations of the big cat and its habitat. This tied in well with the current topic of Adaptations being taught. They got to ask questions and then touch real furs and skulls from the big cats.

We then all spent time around the zoo visiting as many animals as possible in the time we had. This included getting to see the new arrival of a 3-week old baby giraffe – the students had to be really quiet when meeting this new arrival.

The weather was amazing this year (no pouring rain!) and we enjoyed lunch in the sun and ice creams. At the end of the visit some students visited the shop and many were tempted by soft toys of the amazing animals they had met.

A great day out for all and a huge well done to Year 8 for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour.

As part of the day the students were encouraged to take photos to enter into our Photo Competition.

The winners, who all received Amazon vouchers, were:

Overall winner: Lucy Green (8Otter)

Runners Up: Sienna Stent (8Andrewes), Jack James (8Burrows) and Douglas Lapraik (8King)
