Alice! The Musical

Thank you to all who supported the Arts Faculty in our 60th Anniversary revival of Alice! The Musical, based on Lewis Carroll’s works, last week. It was a pleasure for us to work with such a dedicated and talented cast and technical crew and an amazing show band which was entirely made up of students from the school, under the direction of Mrs Bowen-Melfi, Head of Music.

We were really excited to know that Julia Donaldson was in the audience on Thursday’s performance alongside our governors and guests. She really enjoyed the performance and said “it’s always lovely to see young people putting their heart and soul into singing and acting”.

This was a special production for us as a school. It was first performed at Bishop Luffa in 1988 having been adapted into a stage play by Barry Smith who worked at the school as Head of English and Drama. On Friday, we were delighted that the original actor who played Alice in the 1988 version was able to join us in the audience and presented the flowers to Erin Selves who played Alice in our 2024 version during the curtain call!  It was also so exciting to have the music written especially for us by David Glasson who has long been associated with the Doo Dah Bongo Dog band. The show was a rollercoaster of madness and mayhem as only Carroll could imagine. This year we included a matinee for Primary Schools and we ran for four nights. We all worked incredibly hard and we are delighted that the production was such a great success.
