Bishop Luffa retains Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

We are pleased to report that the Eco-Committee at school has been successful in meeting the requirements of the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

This is what the Eco-Schools had to say, “It is evident that young people in your school are aware of environmental issues and passionate about protecting our planet - your large Eco-Committee, 17 members in total, clearly demonstrates this. The work of your large Eco-Committee is supported by two adults. This tells us that your school champions environmental education and youth-led eco-action. We loved reading the documentation and they gave the Eco-Schools Team insight into the discussions that took place. Your Eco-Committee created an Action Plan using insights gained when completing the Environmental Review. This strategic approach will target areas where your school is less sustainable, empowering your Eco-Committee to maximise their impacts. It is clear that whilst developing your plan consideration was given to how you could expand the reach of your Eco-Schools’ work to your whole school.

“Your curriculum link examples are impressively extensive and varied, showing your school’s integration of environmental issues across a variety of subjects and year groups. They are relevant, practical, and fun. Staff members in your school put considerable effort into preparing them. Thank you so much for sharing schemes of work in your application, they helped our team understand and appreciate the environmental learning occurring in your school. Your Eco-Committee has diligently kept their schoolmates and school community informed of their progress, we especially like how they have used ‘Go Green Week’ and ‘Cut your Carbon Month’ – a truly whole school approach. Your Eco-Board is a wonderful celebration of the environmental action happening in your school. Your Eco-Board helped bring your Eco-Schools’ work to life. You state that the most significant success of your Eco-Schools’ work was the 'Go Green Week' as it reached out to the whole school – the Chicken Club being extremely popular. We agree that this is a phenomenal achievement!

"You encountered various challenges during your Eco-Schools’ journey including keeping momentum. However, with flexibility and tenacity, you and your Eco-Committee skilfully navigated these obstacles. During your Eco-Schools’ journey, your passionate and ambitious Eco-Committee has created many positive impacts including planting fruit trees in the grounds, setting up a chicken coop, incorporating a ‘no mow area’, and compost bins. Your final Eco-Code is an aspirational call to action, explaining exactly how your school and its pupils will look after our planet – we especially like the line, ‘We think Green’. Your application has been an absolute delight to assess. You’ve made an incredible impact in your school and local community and serve as an inspiration to all. Congratulations on earning the Eco-Schools’ Green Flag 2024."
