Chicken Club

This year has been the first year of having chickens at Bishop Luffa. On the 4th November, 10 rescue hens came to live in the coop outside the food-tech block. Members of the Chicken Club help take care of the chickens by collecting eggs, refilling water and food, scooping poop and making sure our much-loved chickens are happy. Alongside the general chicken club, there are wellbeing sessions run, such as calm chicken time in the mornings, for students who would benefit from the more therapeutic aspect of caring for the animals. At weekends and holidays students and families help out by checking up on the chickens and caring for them. Recently, a beautiful hen, Snowy, and a number of chicks have come to live at school. They were warmly welcomed by everyone due to their extreme cuteness.

We would like to thank Scarterfields for helping providing feed and bedding and Nyetimber Logs for providing the woodchip. Also a big thank you to Her Grace, the Duchess of Norfolk, and everybody who has supported us and donated to our JustGiving page.

Everyone (families, students and staff) who help at weekends and during holidays also deserve our biggest thanks, as does Mrs Fowles, without whom this project wouldn’t have happened. We all love having chickens at school and look forward to many more years of their presence.
