Sporting News Summer Term 2024
Our students have had some amazing sporting achievements this half term:
Well done to Reuben Shewan (8Wilson), who qualified to represent Sussex at the English Schools Regional Combined Athletics Competition on 22nd June. Reuben came 4th out of 17th athletes.
Charlie Gran (12Burrows) has been having a fantastic summer so far. Charlie won overall Men’s Silver medal and Bronze medal overall in this year’s European Championships in Poland.
This was followed up by the equivalent of the Youth Olympics where his team finished up in the Silver medal position. They were very close to a Gold medal but just lost out in the last moments of the final race. It is an outstanding display of determination, mindset and application. Charlie is now busy preparing for the Youth Sailing World Championships taking place in Aarhus, Denmark at the end of July.
This year’s Sussex Athletics County Championships saw Amelia McGurk (13Ridgeway) collect two medals – her efforts in the U20 400m gained her a superb 2nd place Silver and a Gold in the U20/Senior 4 x 100m Relay. In her final Sussex Schools Championships Amelia had a great weekend running season’s bests in both the 200m and 400m coming away with Bronze and Silver medals respectively. Her move to Brighton & Hove Athletics Club this season has seen her form part of the Senior Women’s 5 x 400m Relay Team and earning the club a new PB of 4:02.06. They are currently ranked 31st in the UK behind International and top University teams.
Congratulations to Jack Slade (7Story) who completed a coast-to-coast cycle in Devon with his dad, riding from Plymouth to Ilfracombe – 105 miles – in one day!
