Year 7 visit the Winchester Science Centre
Our Year 7 students had a great time visiting the Winchester Science Centre, to learn all about the stars, space and how rockets are designed. This tied in with the topics being learnt on the Earth and a previous topic on Forces.
The day consisted of time spent in two interactive exhibitions, where students could touch, feel, build and design a number of science/career exhibits. They then had an amazing Planetarium show, with commentary on our solar system. Each class took part in a workshop, where they were shown how to construct model rockets in teams, which were then fired across the room to see whose rocket went the farthest with the best design. This was very competitive and the students all took an active part in the workshop. A follow up homework back in class has been to design a rocket using the ideas from the workshop. Prizes were tickets to return to the Winchester Science Centre over the holidays.
Feedback from the students was all positive, with many saying how much they enjoyed the experience. Staff were delighted with how amazing our students were and how well behaved and interested in the day they all were. Well done Year 7 and thank you for a fantastic science trip.
