Burrows House 2023-2024
Welcome to Burrows House! We always try to believe in ourselves to achieve the best outcomes we can. Whether that is in our work and exams, or whether it is in the many Interhouse competitions that we participate in.
We’ve all been very sad to see the Year 11s leave who have been part of our Burrows family for so long now. They will be missed by everyone, especially Mr Clarke who has supported them for many of their crucial years at Bishop Luffa. We wish them all the best in whatever they choose to do next.
The Year 10s all had a great time doing their work experiences this year. People did a variety of things including charity work, going to primary schools, going to a hospital and many more exciting things. This year group always tries to throw themselves into the many opportunities they are given, and will always try their best at everything they attempt to do.
The Year 9s picked the subjects that they will be taking for GCSEs and in some lessons have started to learn some of the GCSE content that may come up in their exams. We wish them all the best of luck over the next couple of years. They have also done a brilliant job at helping with Charity bake sales for Dreams Come True (our House charity) – this shows how committed they are to helping others and supporting the House in different ways.
The Year 8s went on a couple of exciting trips – one was to Marwell at the start of the year for a science trip, where they spent the day doing lots of fun activities. They also went to West Wittering for Geography where they learned different geographical techniques for measuring the land. Many of the Year 8s have also taken part in interhouse events that have helped boost their confidence and made them feel more part of the Burrows community.
The Burrows family have been excited to welcome the new Year 7s and their form tutor Mr Owen into the House. They started off their year in the Isle of Wight enjoying activities like swimming, treasure hunts (which Burrows won), laser tag and bonfires in the evening. They travelled across to the island on a hovercraft which was a first for many. They’ve also gone on many other trips like the Winchester Science Museum where they went to the planetarium and designed their own rockets made with bottles which when shaken flew across the room. Lots of the Year 7s participated in House drama this year that managed to get to the Finals with their play ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. We can't wait to see all they bring to the house over their time with us.
