King House was created in 1993 and is named after Bishop Henry King, who was Bishop of Chichester from 1642 to 1646. When Chichester was captured by the Parliamentarians, Bishop King’s estates were confiscated and his library sold. He lived in Buckinghamshire until the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. When he returned to Chichester, he established a restoration fund to repair the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. He died in 1669 and was buried in the Cathedral.
What is King House like?

King House Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for having us together in King House.
We ask You to help us give the best of ourselves while we are here,
And that You use the unity of our house to further your purpose in the world.
Keep us ever mindful of the suffering we can bring an end to,
That we might all become citizens of a kinder, more just world,
And lead us to a greater knowledge of Your love.
Amen

7 KING
Year 7 King made a great start to their time at Bishop Luffa. Their enthusiasm for life in all its fullness has meant that everyone is leading very busy lives. On the sporty side of things we have cross country runners, cyclists, footballers and athletes, all competing regionally, and winning the interhouse football competition was an achievement that brought us all together. There is also a lot of academic success for 7 King this year, I have given out lots of certificates for myriad achievements and we remain, as a form, SPARX champions. But all this has not stopped the pupils from supporting our community, Leading assemblies and worship at Bishop Luffa and other local schools. As the year comes to an end I am very proud to be for tutor for 7 King, I wish them all a restful break and I’m excited to see what this vibrant and enthusiastic group achieve over the years to come.
8 KING
8 King have had a great year growing into the school, becoming more confident and developing habits to live life in all its fullness. There have been many highlights over the year from the trips, to extra curricular clubs and everyday life at school, the students are learning and maturing each day. We have welcomed new students into the form and they have settled well, enjoying the disco earlier in the year as well as developing new friends in the form group. The Barcelona sports tour was popular for many students as well as Marwell Zoo, West Wittering and the countless other trips that Year 8 have been on. Another highlight for many was our recent Enterprise Day. Having the opportunity to have some events off timetable and experience new activities as well as the school games for half the day. They have enjoyed and made the most of many opportunities given.
9 KING
9 King have had another tremendous year at Bishop Luffa School. From Ellie Green's excellent contribution to Chicken Club, and Lexi Carbarns and Thai-la Wilkins' contribution to school council... they have worked hard! Iona Sherwood, Niamh Clark- Lyons, and Anna Swain successfully organised a bake sale for 'Breast Cancer Now.' I can confirm the baked goods were tasty, and it's even sweeter to know that we raised over £60 for a great cause. Throughout the year 9 King were also excellent supporting other House charities, which was fantastic to see. It demonstrates their commitment to supporting the wider school community.
There has been sporting success across the year. Thomas Francis competed in the National Mountain Bike Downhill Series, in Fort William, Scotland, during the first weekend of May half-term. Thomas is currently ranked 4th in the country, which is fantastic, and we are very proud of him! In other sporting news, Niamh Clark-Lyons took part in the CYD South East Performing Arts challenge for dance. Niamh won first place for Modern, second place for Ballet, and second place for Lyrical. Evie Proctor- Heather had incredible success at the Future Cheer competition in Barcelona, which is fantastic. In addition, we had a number of students helping out with athletics clubs, and running sports day for other schools throughout the year, which was fantastic. Furthermore, Bailey James, Tom Maher, and Joe Chisnall all played a pivotal role in the rugby team. Well done boys!
If you were lucky enough to see House drama, you would have noticed Olive Kus, Elodie Roberts, and Anna Swain, all have starring roles in Lord of the Flies. We had a group of 9 King students including Kate Horgan and Thea Miller, among others, involved in incredible singing performances- well done!
Furthermore, Lucas Barty and Iona Sherwood were fantastic helping out with the Youth Services each week. 9 King were fantastic getting involved in Interhouse activities, charity week, and the careers and enterprise day. They are a fantastic group of students, and they should be incredibly proud of all they have achieved this academic year.
10 KING
It has a been a busy and exciting year for 10 King! Students have almost completed their first year of GCSEs and it won’t be long before they embark on their second and final year. It has been amazing to see how they have overcome challenges and become more resilient.
This year, 10 King had the opportunity to complete Work Experience. Their placements were from a wide range of places such as Aston Martin, University of Portsmouth, Goodwood Flying School and local primary schools. We had some impressive reports from the members of staff that worked with them – they were a credit to Bishop Luffa School! The experience will have given them the chance to develop a wide range of skills beyond the school gates.
Recently, students also took part in mock interviews. A number of professionals from various businesses, such as Goodwood, John Lewis, Sussex Pub company and Chichester Festival theatre volunteered their time to run individual mock interviews for the Year 10 cohort. It was an excellent opportunity to practice the skills needed when applying for a job and get some invaluable feedback.
Many of the tutor group are active in a variety of clubs both inside and outside of school. Harry Hatfield is a keen sailor and hopes to complete his Assistant Instructor course later this year. He is also part of Explorers and volunteers with Scouts. Harry Newman enjoys downhill mountain biking and is part of Chichester Triathlon Club. Isaac impressed everyone with his talk on the Gospel reading at Chichester Cathedral, for the school’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. Tom Vosper has been working hard on his cubing (speed solving of Rubik’s cubes) and included this as part of his Duke of Edinburgh. Fran is a Sports Leader and also represents us in the girl’s football team. Tom Congalton, our very own Biking Viking, has successfully run a Philosophy club this year. Evie Castle is part of the schools La Diva choir and also volunteers at Brownies. Lorelei is involved in a wide range of activities outside of school such as dance, football and speed bounce competitively.
Congratulations on a wonderful year, I cannot wait to see all that you will achieve next year!
11 KING
This year has been remarkable for the students of 11 King. Their dedication and hard work in revising for their GCSE exams have been inspiring, showcasing their commitment and resilience.
A highlight of the year was their prom, held in a beautifully decorated marquee – thank you to everyone involved in making it look so spectacular! The students arrived in style, with a variety of sports cars, luxury cars and motorbikes adding to the excitement of the evening. It was a magical celebration, finished with fireworks, perfectly capping off their time at the school and the friendships they’ve formed over the years.
As they move on to their next challenges and face the long wait for their exam results over the summer, it’s clear that their futures will be varied and exciting with many of them moving onto sixth form or college. Having known many of them for five years, it’s bittersweet to see them leave. They have grown into remarkable young individuals, and their presence will be dearly missed.
I wish them all the best in their future endeavours and hope they have all made some wonderful memories during their time with us.
12 KING
This has been a fabulous year for 12 King, who have repeatedly taken opportunities to showcase their talents and get involved with the many opportunities available at Bishop Luffa. Our House drama performance, expertly run by Tilly, Eva, Sophia, and Lola, showcased their creativity as well as organisational skills. We are incredibly proud of Tilly, who has been appointed as a School Captain, a testament to her will to contribute to our community. In the realm of sports, Sam is making waves as he competes in the 29er European Championships in Poland as part of the British youth sailing squad, an outstanding achievement. Harvey has had consistent successes in cross country races, showing great perseverance through the winter months. Beyond these individual achievements, several pupils have volunteered to read with KS3 students and serve as peer mentors, building on the supportive and inclusive environment that our school is known for. Looking ahead, we are excited to run a juice stall on Sports Day, which promises to be a fun and engaging way to contribute to the event. These accomplishments and initiatives reflect the hard work and enthusiasm of our tutor group.
13 KING
13 King have had a busy final term preparing for their A-levels. They've worked incredibly hard on course work, mocks, revision and finally, their actual exams. They've been incredibly supportive of each other and are a great team. We wish them all the very best for the future.
